First Presbyterian Church offers a varied music program, ranging from preschool through adult. There are children's choirs from 4 year old through sixth grade, a youth choir, and an adult worship choir. Choir practice for each group is held weekly throughout the year, with special musical offerings from time to time.
Throughout the ages, music has been used in praise to our Creator. It is intertwined
with the essence of worship and a natural way to give thanks when one is filled
with the spirit. A powerful vehicle for praise, prayer, meditation, healing,
and learning, music provides an active opportunity to encounter the one who
is greater than we. It helps to re-center us and focus our minds, souls, and
bodies as we sing, play, or listen while the chaos of the world continues.
As a conductor and music educator, I believe it is very important to have a full music program at First Presbyterian so that excellence in music and continuous development of God-given talents may thrive in the church now, and in future generations. I believe that the world is what we make of it with the Divine one to guide us.
Music is an integral part of our services here at First Presbyterian as we strive
to honor our Lord. It is very important to us that we have a great variety of
music styles and involve all age groups in musical activities. Anyone may participate
in meaningful expressions of their faith in the music ministry of First Presbyterian

Remember the witness of the book of Psalms, ending
with Psalm 150:
"Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
Praise him with the sound of the trumpet:
praise him with the psaltery and harp.
Praise him with timbrels and dances: praise him upon the strings and pipe.
Praise him upon the loud cymbals:
praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord.
Praise ye the Lord."

A Word About Our Program This church music program is certainly fully-functional with all age groups represented. We have a solid program with GOOD music literature and a well-balanced worship choir. If anyone is interested in leading a bell choir, please chime in! Interested in singing a solo, duet, trio, quartet, etc in our worship service? Playing an instrument perhaps? Let me know! |
